1997’s Titanic – Still Top of the Box Office

James Cameron’s creation of Titanic was nothing less than perfect. It truly couldn’t have been written any better, as in the eyes of the women Rose herself. Titanic starts off with Brock Lovett, a treasure hunter searching for a rare gem under the sea. It is rumored that the blue heart of the ocean diamond sunk down with the titanic, and he wants it.

He then finds a safe in which he believes the diamond is in, but finds a drawing of a women wearing the diamond instead. The women’s name is Rose Dawson, and moments later she comes forward claiming she is the women in the drawing. Now… This is where the movie starts. The entire movie is set in her eyes. The hunters question her numerous times, as she starts her journey on the “unsinkable” ship. If you haven’t seen the movie this will contain spoilers.

Rose Dewitt Bukater is 17 years old when she docks on Titanic. Her mother who was very proper, had little money, so she was taking her daughter to America to marry a rich man named Cal Hockley. Rose who would of rather avoided the connection between her and Cal, went along with it, and was engaged to him.

Days later Rose attempts to commit suicide, but coming to Rose’s aid Jack Dawson, a poor but charming third class passenger, who won his ticket on the Titanic in a game of poker. After Jack saved Rose, Cal and his crew come to find Jack’s clothes on the ground along side Rose.

With thoughts going through there heads, he tells them the truth. While they probably do not believe him, they move on anyway. Throughout the entire movie, Cal would love nothing more than to have Jack chained up in a room for the remainder of the journey.

During the course of the movie, Jack and Rose start seeing each other more and more, until it was time Cal found out for himself. Cal eventually finds out and all hell breaks loose. With nothing Call could do, he does the only thing he can do, falsely accuses Jack of theft and has him handcuffed in a room down below. With the Ship damaged and starting to sink, Jack is trapped down below, and Rose must come to his aid now.

The events the followed Cals love for Rose changes his feelings for Rose, as he must save his life, let alone hers, so he does the unexpected. Of course I knew this was going to happen, but that is just me. I won’t say what happens, and leave it to you to watch the movie if you haven’t already.

Titanic itself is a love story of course, but not only that but the real effects of Rose’s life on the Titanic. The price to make this movie was amazingly high, so you could expect the story to be very heart warming, and perfected. Although the Romantic part is enough to put a tear in your eye, and put you on the edge of your seat, there is still the historic point of view part of the movie that makes the movie what it is.

The Titanic hit an iceberg, and while the ship was said to be unsinkable, the water tight doors couldn’t close fast enough, therefore flooding enough compartments to sink it. The adventure on saving each and everyone’s life is in the hands of God, and the difference between love and death will be decided when all is said and done.

Overall this movie is perfect. 11 Oscars backing this movie up shows that this movie shouldn’t be touched on the Box Office list for a long time. The only thing that disappoints me and others, is that they didn’t make a Special Edition DVD with Behind the Scenes footage. But overall the movie is flawless to the max.
