Armstrong Floor Cleaner: Review

Armstrong Floor Cleaner eliminates the need for rinsing and sticky residue left behind by most floor cleaners. Armstrong Floor Cleaner was designed for no wax floors and is safe on ceramic tile and no wax floors, without harming tile grout.

According to the directions on the label, it states, for routine cleaning, add ¼ cup of Armstrong Floor Cleaner to a gallon of warm water, and wash floor as usual. For extra strength cleaning, use ½ cup of Armstrong Floor Cleaner, or full strength on tough spots, wiping with a clean, damp cloth afterwards. No rinsing is necessary after using this product, which eliminates a second step that most kitchen floor cleaners require.

You can also use ¼ cup of Armstrong Floor Cleaner with one cup ammonia and warm water to remove waxy build up from cleaning products and it will act like a stripper. This is especially useful if you are planning on applying a product such as a floor shiner or wax. Apply, let stand for 5 minutes, then scrub and rinse with clean water. No waxy or sticky build up will occur with continued use of this product.

Cautions as indicated by the manufacturer are that it can be an eye irritant, contains surfactants and should be kept away from children and pets (as any cleaning solution should). They also caution against mixing with bleach solutions as hazardous fumes may result.

Although this product is a bit on the pricy side ($5.00 at Target), it will make about 16 gallons, which should last the average user a few months at least. Although this product states it makes about 16 gallons, this is not necessarily 16 cleanings. After using this product twice, the bottle is about ¼ empty. I have found that this product works better than other floor products I have tried such as Lysol or Mr. Clean. If you have ever cleaned a floor and then walked on it after dry only to find your shoes make a sticking sound, you will quickly come to realize that Armstrong Floor Cleaner is a product worthy of its price. You will also feel as if you are really cleaning, and not just spreading cleaning solution around when you see the dirt that comes off your floors. Even hard to clean linoleum floors look good after using this product. I have especially dirty floors from extensive traffic from my dogs and people walking through the kitchen, which is the main room in the house. After I use Armstrong Floor Cleaner, I notice how much cleaner my floors are, and see how much dirt is left in the sink. As compared to other cleaners, much more dirt comes up and I do not have to wash the floors a second time.

As an avid user of ammonia which is inexpensive as well as works well to disinfect and strip build up, I dislike the strong scent, the harsh fumes I breathe in when I use it and will use Armstrong Floor Cleaner as an alternative now that I have tried it. I also used to use Lysol or Mr. Clean which are also much less expensive than Armstrong, but the sticky residue left behind is aggravating and the linoleum just does not seem as clean as some dirt is still left behind. I have also found less need to scrub the floors with a scrub brush when using Armstrong Floor Cleaner as it gets into the grooves on the floor well.

There is no noticeable scent from using this product, which can be good for those who dislike added perfumes and scents to cleaning products, or negative for those who like their kitchens to smell like lemon or other scents. It is also not irritating like ammonia is to the eyes or when breathing in. I highly suggest using this product and then applying Pledge with Future Shine for extra shine and protection. Armstrong floor cleaner is an excellent floor cleaner, but does not provide a good shine or protection as a product such as Pledge with Future Shine will. The two products used in conjunction make a great duo for your floors. I strongly recommend this product over typical floor cleaners and now that I have begun to use it, it will remain my floor cleaner of choice.
