Bio of Steve Carell from NBC’s The Office

Steve Carell plays the character of Michael Scott on NBC’s new hit “The Office.” You may know the name Steve Carell form the humorous movie “40-Year-Old Virgin.” The movie was released by Universal Pictures and earned Steve Carell a nomination for the Best Original Screenplay from the Writer’s Guild of America. “The office” is just one of Steve Carell’s latest entertainment endeavors and one of many in his long line of successful ventures.

Carell plays the boss in NBC’s “The Office.” His character is pompous and self absorbed in a quirky, dry, and humorous fashion. Carell’s portrayal of the comically deluded boss earned him the 2006 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series.

Carell is no stranger to acknowledgement in the acting industry. He also received the Best Comedy Film award from the Broadcast Film Critics Association. “40-Year-Old Virgin” received the honor from fans of being # 1 at the box office for two consecutive weekends. It was also number one in several other countries including England and Canada. The movie took in over 170 million dollars. The American Film Institute also named “40-Year-Old Virgin” as one of the Top Ten Movies of 2005.

Carell was born in Concord, Massachusetts on April 16th. He is a family man with a wife and two children. He and his family live in Los Angeles, California where “The Office” is taped.

Carell was seen in earlier works like “Bruce Almighty” with big name actor Jim Carey. Carell held his own against the powerhouse comedian and even stole a little of the proverbial thunder. His role was so successful he is scheduled to star in “Evan Almighty,” a spin off of “Bruce Almighty.” Carell will play the part of Evan Baxter. Evan receives the touch of God this time around. Carell is also acted in “Bewithced” and “Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy.” He co-starred alongside Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell in these box office successes.

Carell recently co-starred in the independent film “Little Miss Sunshine.” His co-stars include Greg Kinnear and Toni Collete. The film premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.

Carell began his work in the industry on “The Daily Show;” a popular and successful television show. His other early television works also include a roe as Edgar on the show “Watching Ellie.” He played the part of a somewhat passive aggressive ex-lover to the main character Ellie.

Other television roles include a spot as a reoccurring regular on “Over the Top.” He also worked as both a writer and performer on “The Dana Carvey Show.”

Carell has also worked animated films. He provides the voice for “Hammy” in the animated movie “Over the Hedge.” “Over th Hedge” is a DreamWorks production scheduled to for release in May of 2006.

Other accolades in Carell’s career include gracing the cover of Life Magazine, being touted as the funniest man in America. He has also guest hosted Saturday Night Live. He was given the honor of hosting the premier show for the 2005 – 2006 season.
