Canon Supports Relief Efforts for Hurricane Katrina Disaster

The Canon Group has announced a $1 million contribution to the American Red Cross in support of relief efforts for victims of the devastation caused by the recent hurricane which struck the Gulf Coast Aug. 29th.

Founded in 1937 the company was one of the top businesses to receive government patents between the years 1995 to 2004.

In other hurricane-related news, the SoupMobile (soupmobile.org) at 3017 Commerce Street in Dallas, TX has asked local residents to collect all the food they can get and bring it to their SoupMobile Headquarters. They request that you call to arrange a delivery time at 1-800-375-5022. Items needed include bottled water, fruit, individual-sized snack items such as chips, Fritos, Cheetos, energy and snack bars, canned goods, and whatever else you can bring.

The North Texas Food Bank also in Dallas needs volunteers to help sort donations. Their phone number is 214-330-1396.

Hurricane refugees can contact KittiCo Cat Rescue for help with emergency vet care for cats and kittens, cat food, litter, and supplies. They are located at 12100 Inwood in Dallas (just north of the intersection of Inwood and Forest near the PetsMart). For information go to kittico.org or call 214-826-6903 #4.

KittiCo is helping the Humane Society of the U.S. and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) with the rescue and treatment of displaced and injured animals due to the hurricane. You can email them at giving@kittico.org. They are asking for donations of money, carriers, food, litter, gift cards, litter boxes; etc. They brought back animals from the disaster areas Sept. 17th and 18th and were gearing up for the next phase of the relief effort which is settling the animals into foster homes not reclaimed by owners, then placing them in permanent and adoptive homes.

The organization is also requesting that people seriously consider helping them and other local animal rescue groups that have offered to help by volunteering to be a foster parent for the Hurricane cats in the event that more come to Dallas.

A gift of $18 pays for one week of antibiotic treatment, $20 will pay for one feline leukemia test, $30 for one male cat to be neutered, $40 for one female cat to be spayed, $40 will pay for a one-week newspaper ad for adoptions, and the same amount pays for one animal trap.
