Children’s Bedroom Craft Ideas: Princess Theme Storage Box

This princess theme storage box is perfect for storing crayons, markers, small toys, or other small items in a little girl’s bedroom. For even more family fun, let your child help you create this simple project.

For this project, you will need:

– Unfinished wood cigar box (available at most craft stores)

– Medium grit sandpaper

– Soft cloth or tack cloth

– Masking tape

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Ballet Slipper

– Anna Griffin “Eliza Pink Paisley” Print Scrapbook Paper (found in stores or online at Paper Addict)

– Ruler

– Pencil

– Decorative edge scissors

– Sponge brush

– Mod Podge or other decoupage medium

– Gold colored cardstock

– Tiara shaped stencil

– Craft knife

– Self healing mat

– Xyron machine fitted with a double-sided adhesive cartridge

– Shallow pan

– Gold glitter

– Hot glue gun and glue sticks

– Newspaper

Cover your work area fully with newspaper. Gently sand the unfinished wood cigar box with medium grit sandpaper. Wipe away any excess wood dust from the box with a soft cloth or other tack cloth. Use the masking tape to cover any hinge detail on the box.

Spray the wooden box with an even coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Allow the box to set for fifteen to twenty minutes before adding a second coat. Let the primed wood dry for three to four hours. Paint the entire outside of the box using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Ballet Slipper. Let the paint dry for about twenty minutes before adding a second coat. Repeat this process for a third coat, and dry overnight.

Place the Anna Griffin “Eliza Pink Paisley” print scrapbook paper flat. With a ruler and a pencil, measure and mark a piece that is one half inch smaller than the top of the painted cigar box. Use decorative edge scissors to cut out the shape. Add a large amount of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium to the back of the paper. Adhere to the top of the painted box, smoothing the paper so there are no wrinkles or bubbles. Dry completely.

Lay the gold colored cardstock flat on the self healing mat. With a pencil, trace the tiara shape onto the paper. Cut out the shape with a craft knife. Run the tiara shape through a Xyron machine fitted with a double-sided adhesive cartridge. Remove the top layer of protective sheeting from the image and set in a shallow pan. Dust liberally with gold glitter. Shake off any excess.

Remove the back sheet of protective plastic from the tiara shape. Adhere the tiara shape to the center of the top of the box with a bit of hot glue. Allow the glue to dry completely before using.
