Creative Uses for Fabric Sheets

Did you know that fabric sheets can be used for a lot more than keeping your clothes static free in the dryer?

Aside from their air freshening and magnetizing properties, fabric sheets are ideal for everything from repelling mosquitoes and removing soap scum from your shower doors to cleaning dirty dishes and preventing sewing threads from becoming tangled.

Following are some of my favorite ways of using fabric sheets around the home…

Air Freshener Ideas

Use as an Air Freshener
Freshen the air in your home by placing nice smelling fabric sheets in hidden areas around your house or apartment. Use in place of stick or oil air fresheners that tend to be pricey.

Keep Suitcases Smelling Fresh
To prevent musty suitcases place a fabric sheet in empty luggage before storing.

Freshen the Air in Your Car
Place a fabric sheet under the front seat.

No More Dirty Laundry Odors
Eliminate dirty laundry odors by placing a new fabric sheet at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper. Change often.

Deodorize Shoes or Sneakers
Place a fabric sheet in your shoes or sneakers overnight and they’ll smell much fresher in the morning.

Freshen Clothes
Put a fabric sheet in your dresser drawers for fresh smelling clothes.

Keep Linens Fresh
Your linens will be kept smelling fresh when you regularly keep a fresh fabric sheet or two in your linen closet.

Deodorize Your Gym Bag
There’s nothing worse than a smelly gym bag. Do yourself and everyone else around you a favor by keeping a new fabric sheet in your bag at all times.

Diaper Pail Freshness
Counteract nasty diaper pail smells with new fabric sheets. Every time you take a bag of diapers out to the curb add a new fabric sheet.

Eliminating Static Electricity

Eliminate Static Electricity from Your TV Screen
Fabric sheets are designed to help eliminate static cling. Wipe your television screen with a used fabric sheet and you’ll find it helps to keep dust from resettling.

Use as a Dust Cloth
Who needs a dusting rag when a used fabric sheet will do the trick?

No More Clingy Pantyhose
Eliminate static cling from pantyhose by rubbing a used fabric sheet damped with water over the length of your nylons.

Collect Pet Hair
By gently rubbing your furniture with a fabric sheet you will magnetically attract loose pet hairs.

Clean Blinds
Eliminate static electricity and clean your Venetian blinds by wiping them down with a fabric sheet.

Use as a Tack Cloth
A fabric sheet works great as a tack cloth to wipe up sawdust from drilling or using sandpaper.

Clean Ceiling Fans
Clean your ceiling fans by wiping the blades with a fabric sheet.

Miscellaneous Uses

Keep Flies at Bay
Hang new fabric sheets just outside your exterior doors to ward against flies inside your home.

Repel Mosquitoes
Tie a fabric sheet through a belt loop when outdoors during bug season to repel those nasty mosquitoes.

Remove Soap Scum from Shower Doors
For soap free shower doors clean them with a used fabric sheet dampened with a little water.

Clean Dirty Dishes
Put a fabric sheet in the dirty pan and fill with water. Let sit overnight and sponge clean. The anti-static agents apparently weaken the bond between the food and the pan while the fabric softening agents soften the baked-on food.

Prevent Threads from Tangling
Run a threaded needle through a fabric sheet to eliminate the static cling on the thread before sewing.

I can’t guarantee that all of these household hints will work perfectly in each and every situation. Hopefully the above fabric sheet uses will inspire a few ideas of your own.
