Fiftieth Birthday Party Ideas

Uncle Dave’s fiftieth birthday party is coming up fast and you want to make it special. Of course, he’d love a good old fashioned beer bash, but you might not still be Aunt Myrna’s favorite nephew when the party’s over. If you’re not going to throw a kegger, how can you still commemorate that special fiftieth birthday party without using all of those over the hill party supplies? Actually, there are quite a few ways to celebrate that half century mark.

If Uncle Dave really loves his beer, you can combine his favorite beverage with a touch of culture to keep Aunt Myrna happy, too. Just rent an art gallery and hold an art show for a local artist. Instead of wine and cheese, serve a variety of imported beers and several types of chips. Let your guests come in blue jeans and tee shirts to help keep the event relaxing and fun.
If classic cars are more the honoree’s style, why not throw a back to the future party? Rent a classic car from the year that the birthday guest turned sixteen and have the guests chauffeured to the local skating rink or bowling alley. Be sure music from the guest’s teen age years is playing. Of course, the cake and decorations should match the model of the car you rent.
For the guest who doesn’t care for cars, why not try to re-create another favorite teenage memory? A back to the future party works well with a sweet sixteen revisited or a dance fever theme, as well. Just be sure the honoree really had fun during the last party or event before re-creating it!

Does the guest of honor like to dress up? Why not throw a ballroom dance party? Hire an instructor so the guests can learn some steps and then hold a mock competition. Just make sure you have a suitable costume for the birthday boy or girl to change into.

For the serious collector or hobbiest, a party based on the collection or hobby theme is sure to be a hit. For instance, take your garden lover on a garden tour and have tea in the garden or a nearby tea shop. Guests should bring gifts such as IOU’s for spreading mulch or weeding. For guests who don’t have the time or ability to do manual labor, suggest manure, good gardening gloves, or a gift certificate to the local nursery.

Finally, if none of these ideas work for you, why not hold a golden birthday party. After all, a fiftieth anniversary is the golden anniversary, so it stands to reason that a fiftieth birthday should be golden, as well. Celebrate the day by using gold colored accessories, including table cloths, napkins, plates, and even centerpieces. Gild the birthday cake with foil covered chocolates.
