Gym Kids Has It All

Gym Kids in Flower Mound, Texas is the ultimate in fun learning when it comes to kids. Mike Winburn opened Gym Kids in the Flower Mound area in 1997 to teach gymnastics to area kids. He started with a staff of two and one tiny room. His concept to keep the kids first has earned him a place at the top when it comes to teaching. He has expanded to over 12,000 square feet and his trained staff teaches gymnastics, parent-tot classes, dancing, sport skills, martial arts, swim lessons, cheerleading, and tumbling.

Gymnastics was the beginning of Gym Kids. Although the gym has expanded to teach other areas, Gym Kids still offers comprehensive gymnastics for ages infant and up. The parent-tot classes are geared for infants, ages 6 months to three years. Classes are also offered for all ages for both boys and girls. They have a competitive class and show teams for older kids and a tumbling exhibition team. The gymnastic instructors at Gym Kids are specially trained and know how to teach children of all ages. And you can’t beat the three-person swing or the foam pit in the gymnastics area!

Dance classes were added to the Gym Kids curriculum in 2002. The dance instructors teach dance to children beginning at the age of 3. They offer beginning ballet and tap, intermediate ballet, tap and jazz and have a dance team called Razzle Dazzle. Children who are interested in dance and gymnastics are given an option to take combination classes. Gym Kids has recently added hip-hop and drill team skills to their dance class list. The dance team can often be seen performing at community events. All children enrolled in dance are encouraged to perform at the recitals that are held twice a year. The dance instructors have an obvious love for children and dance. This is the best place in town for dance instruction.

This is also the perfect place for boys and girls of all ages to learn martial arts. Instructors have all been doing martial arts for years and that is their specialty. You won’t find a cheerleading coach teaching martial arts at Gym Kids. This is a fun, non-competitive environment for kids who want to learn but may feel intimidated by competitive martial arts studios. They offer classes for ages three and up and a traditional belted system. In addition, the martial arts instructors offer Tae Kwon Do and judo tournaments three times a year, where everyone is a winner.

Swim lessons, cheerleading and sports skills are three other types of classes that Gym Kids offers. Cheerleading classes teaches girls the basics of cheer in a family-friendly way. They also have a cheer show team. Sport skills teach kids ages 3 to 6 a variety of sport skill such as soccer, baseball, basketball and football. This is the perfect way for kids to learn a little about everything. The swim lessons at Gym Kids are the best. In the long semesters, swim lessons are offered for all ages and swim levels at the adjacent Health and Athletics. In the summer, parents can opt to take kids to swimming lessons at Coach Mike’s outdoor pool. The classes are small and the instructors are extremely patient and accommodating.

Gym Kids remains THE place for parents and kids wanting to learn fun and non-competitive skills. Parents will love the bright, clean observation rooms, fun and inviting sibling playrooms and the helpful staff. They offer discounts for multiple children in the same family and discounts for kids who want to take more than one class. They also have fun holiday camps, parent’s night out and summer camps that kids love. Gym Kids also gives great birthday parties and can accommodate any age and almost any crowd. Gym Kids has a convenient pro-shop to pick up supplies such as dancewear, martial arts uniforms, swimsuits, gymnastic suits, equipment bags, dance shoes and more.
