The Chapman Cultural Center opened in October 2007. The 86,000 square foot campus houses a 500-seat theater where you attend various entertainments such as plays, musicals, ballet, and local and traveling bands. The Cultural Center also houses three museums, (SAM) Spartanburg Arts Museum, the History Museum, and the Science Center! Spartanburg and the surrounding counties are fortunate to have this state-of-the-art facility in downtown Spartanburg.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever -Dec 6-7, 2013

Presented by Spartanburg’s Youth Theatre, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is a play that will have you laughing! It is about a couple who has to put together the church Christmas Pageant. That sounds easy, right. This is not quite the case when the Herdman kids are involved! They are known to cause much mayhem and raucous! How will the pageant turn out? You will have to attend one of the shows to find out. So, come on out with the family to see “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” and you will not regret it! This is certainly a wonderful event suited all ages!

Holiday Art Market – Dec. 8, 2013

Plan to do some holiday shopping while listening to live music at this expanded Sunday’s unplugged event from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Located in the theater lobby, there will be local artists and craftspeople with their goods for sale. You will find everything from paintings, jewelry, books, pottery, metalwork, to stained glass and more! There is no admission charge for this event! See more details here.

Open Auditions: Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat – Dec. 9-10, 2013

If you have a child interested in acting, (grades 3 through 12) here is a great opportunity to try out for a part. The Spartanburg Youth Theatre will hold auditions from 5:30-7:30 p.m. each night. There is no cost to audition. However, there are some special instructions for the actors, click here for complete details.

To work off any jitters your actor may be experiencing, there is a workshop before the actual auditions on the ninth and 10th. It is held on Dec. 7 from 9 am-12 pm. Click on the link above for more details!

Christmas Concert by Spartanburg Community Band – Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013

Prior to the annual Christmas concert by the Spartanburg Community Band at 3 p.m., the Morningside Baptist Church will be in the theater’s lobby to give a pre-concert hand bell performance beginning at 2:15 p.m. If you are not in the Christmas spirit before this afternoon, you surely will be before you leave! There will be a reception for patrons to enjoy in the lobby following the Spartanburg Community Band concert in the theater’s lobby! There is a $5 cost for this concert. ArtWalk Spartanburg – Dec. 19, 2013

Presented by the Chapman Cultural Center, the “ArtWalk” on Dec. 19 is a great event for the entire family. Kids and adults alike will enjoy strolling among the various art museums and galleries in downtown Spartanburg. The “ArtWalk” begins at the Chapman Cultural Center at 5 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. In addition to getting some exercise on the walk, you will gain a lot of knowledge about the art you view, and have fun at the same time! This event is free and is appropriate for all ages. S.C. nights are cold, so dress appropriately and wear comfortable walking shoes!

Holiday Science Camp – Dec. 21, 2013

The science center on the Chapman Cultural Center’s campus is hosting a Holiday Science Camp for children ages 6-11! It is limited to the first 20 registrants. Costs and other vital information are here!
