Homemade Facial Masks for Dry Skin

Homemade facial masks, along with your regular skin-care regimen, can help add moisture and a fresh-looking glow to your dry skin. And homemade facial masks aren’t only less expensive than those you buy at the store. They can also be healthier for your dry skin than commercial facial masks, which often contain chemicals and preservatives.

Before you use a homemade facial mask for your dry skin, here are some things to keep in mind.

1. It’s best to use a homemade facial mask soon after you make it. However, if you have extra, you can keep most of these facial masks in the refrigerator for up to a week.

2. You shouldn’t leave a facial mask on any longer than instructed.

3. While you’re waiting to remove your mask, take the time to relax. Lie down and close your eyes. Read a chapter of that book you’ve been meaning to get to. Listen to your favorite music. Whatever you find restful.

4. Clean your skin before applying a facial mask.

Avocado and Yogurt Facial Mask for Dry Skin

Avocado, which contains vitamin E, as well as other natural oils, is a great moisturizer for dry skin.

Place a ripe avocado, peeled and seeded, in a blender or food processor with four tablespoons of plain yogurt. Blend until smooth. Apply the mixture to your face, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for ten to fifteen minutes, and then rinse your face with warm water.

Banana and Yogurt Facial Mask for Dry Skin

The yogurt will not only hydrate and soften your dry skin, it will also exfoliate your skin, removing dead skin cells.

Peel one banana. Place half of it in a bowl. (You can eat the other half.) Mash the banana with a fork. Add four tablespoons of plain yogurt to the banana, and stir the mixture until smooth. Apply to your face and leave on for ten to fifteen, then rinse off with warm water.

Honey and Egg Facial Mask for Dry Skin

While honey is a natural astringent, it will also moisturize your dry skin.

Separate the yolk from one egg. (You can use the rest for a light, egg white omelet.) Mix the egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of honey, and stir the mixture until smooth. Leave on for ten to fifteen minutes, then rinse off with warm water.

Honey & Milk Facial Mask for Dry Skin

For a quick-fix facial mask for your dry skin, mix two tablespoons of honey with two teaspoons of milk. Apply the sticky mixture to your face, and leave on for ten to fifteen minutes. Then rinse off with warm water.

You don’t have to spend lots of money on expensive, commercial facial masks. You can find everything you need to create a homemade facial mask for your dry skin right in your kitchen.
