Homemade Soda Pop Can Flower Candle Holders – How to Make

Are you looking for another use for those soda cans besides recycling them? Why not learn how to make Homemade Soda Pop Can Flower Candle Holders? It’s easy to do, and you’ll have unique decorations to spruce up your home everyday, or, for a special event!

Step #1 Get an Empty Soda Pop Can
Grab an empty soda can, place a drop of dishwashing detergent in it, and add some water. Swish the solution around so it cleans the sticky pop out of the entire inside of the can. Then, dump the sudsy solution and rinse the soda pop can out well.

Step #2 Cut the Top Off
Put on a pair of gloves to protect your hands from metal cuts. Then, measure down 1-1/2″ from the top of the can and mark that spot with a marker. Continue to measure and mark around the rest of the soda pop can (as shown in the picture). Use an old pair of scissors (it will dull them) and cut the metal top off using the marks as guides. Dispose of the metal top.

Step #3 Freeze the Empty Soda Pop Can
To make a Homemade Soda Pop Can Flower Candle Holder, fill the empty soda can with tap water and let it freeze until it becomes hard. You’ll find out why you do this in the next step.

Step #4 Punch Holes Near the Bottom
The next step is to remove the soda can from the freezer. Next, you’ll need to punch holes anywhere in the bottom 1- 1/2 inches of the can. I drew a line around my can (as you can see in the picture) so I knew how far up I could go. You can punch a random pattern of the same-sized holes. Or, make different sized holes, or make one continual pattern, et cetera.

Once you’ve decided what you want the bottom of the Homemade Soda Pop Can Flower Candle Holder to look like, hold the soda can sideways on a hard surface. Use a metal punch, different sized nails, et cetera, to make the holes in the metal. Do it quickly before the ice melts!

(You can also use a battery-powered drill with a small drill bit. It’s quicker and really much easier if you want all of the holes to be the same size.)

When you’re done punching the holes, remove the ice from the soda pop can.

Step #5 Cut Out the Flower Petals
Use the marker to make four even points around the top of the soda pop can. Each point will be about 2″ inches apart. Use the pair of old scissors again to cut slits vertically down the metal can at the four marks.

Gently pull each metal section back and down so they’re on the outside of the soda pop can. Then, use the scissors again to carefully trim each section so it’s shaped like a flower petal.

Once that’s done, carefully curl each petal by wrapping them around the marker.

Step #6 Paint Your Homemade Soda Pop Can Flower Candle Holders
Make sure the can is completely dry, then paint your candle holder inside and out. Allow the paint to completely dry before you place a candle in the holder and use it.
