The first thing you need to check would be the guide rod on the tank stopper. This can be found when you lift the lid of the toilet. It could be bent or twisted and that’s all you have to do. Normally, a toilet will have either or. It might have a chain or it might have a guide rod. If that doesn’t do it you proceed to step two.

Step two consists of checking the floating device. Sometimes the flow arm isn’t bent enough and the buoyancy isn’t right. So, try lifting the ball. If this stops the water then there is your problem. If the ball happens to have water in it, then this tells you that it is time to replace the ball on the toilet. It’s easy to replace. You just unscrew it from what is called the arm and put the new one on. Something else you might have to replace is the stopper and the valve. Sometimes this gets damaged by the buildup of debris. Last, when all else fails. You move on to step four if it is yet still running. This might mean that you have to take the valve and assembly and maybe even the whole shaft into the store with you so that you can replace it.
