How to Make Someone Fall in Love with You

A girl sat down in the chair and logged in. She opened the search engine and typed in her query, trying to be as discreet as possible. It was embarrassing what she wanted to know, but absolutely essential. She was tired of passing him in the hallways and hoping to make eye contact, to see some kind of sign that he was interested as well. She was done making small talk in class, asking him for the homework assignment or what date the next test was on. Now was the time to take action and not another moment would be wasted. She will make this happen.

“How to make someone fall in love with you,” a voice said in the station next to her. She quickly minimized the screen and turned to her intruder. It was a boy who she recognized from one of her classes. She had never talked to him before and wondered why he decided to take an interest in her now.

“Kindly leave me alone,” she said with fake sweetness. The last thing she needed was someone to judge her.

“Who’s the lucky guy?”

She looked at him in disbelief. What nerve this boy had! This was none of his business and she would not answer his invasive question. She quickly logged off the computer and stomped away, too embarrassed and angry to shoot a snarky comment at him .

Two periods went by until she saw him next by her locker. “You never answered my question,” he said slyly as he leaned against a wall of lockers with a sense of satisfaction at her visible discomfort.

“Why would you want to know?”
She glared at him and wished she had waited until she got home to conduct her research.

“I bet it’s that guy who sits behind you in English. I see you throwing yourself at him every chance you get.”

Her face began to feel warm and she cursed herself. “You’re really something,” she said in a confident tone, trying to save the little dignity she had left. With her head held high, the girl walked away.

The boy watched her go regretfully and muttered, “Maybe if you just talked to him normally, he would see what I see.”
