Ice Cream Sundae Recipes

Hooray! Summer is here! But like peanut butter and jelly there is something else that also goes together. Summertime and yes, I have to say it, DIETING! I mean let’s face it, every woman wants to look good in that itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini. Well in my case, a nice one piece bathing suit. But who the hell wants to eat styrofoam-like rice cakes and cardboard-like shredded wheat all summer just to stay slim. After all, it is summertime.

Ladies, don’t fret! For those of you with an insatiable summertime sweet tooth like mine, there are options. There are plenty of deliciously decadent treats that a person can eat in moderation and still maintain a healthy weight. One of my personal summertime favorites is the ice cream sundae. For me, summertime just wouldn’t be the same without this frosty treat. The only bad thing about the ice cream sundae is the billions of calories in just one sundae. Summer bummer!

So here’s the big question. “How does a drop dead gorgeous woman like me fit into a stunning and flattering one piece bathing suit but still be able to eat her favorite summertime dessert?”

Watkins to the rescue! For those of you who are unfamiliar with this company, here’s the low-down taken directly from their website, www.watkinsonline.com.

“Before there was a pharmacy on every corner, or a gourmet shop in every town, there was Watkins. Starting back in 1868, we purveyed the only health “remedies” that came with a money-back guarantee. That guarantee still remains, along with a reputation for using only the finest natural ingredients.

While we’re most famous for our award-winning Vanilla and spices, today we offer a complete line of gourmet specialty foods, botanical personal-and home-care products, elegant gift baskets and – of course – tried and true medicinals.”

The one gourmet specialty food that Watkins makes and that I personally can’t live without during the summer are Watkins Gourmet Extracts. Their extracts are concentrated liquids of citrus fruits or other natural flavors. They come in two ounce bottles and cost $4.99 each. You get your choice of 22 yummy flavors to choose from. Watkins Gourmet Extracts are fat-free and contain no sugar with the exception of Black Walnut, Maple, Vanilla and Vanilla Nut, but they contain very small amounts of sugar. These extracts can be consumed by those individuals on the Atkins Diet or other low-carbohydrate diet plans. Ladies, instead of going the traditional route by going down to the local ice cream parlor and ordering a traditional billion calorie sundae, try one of these low-cal ice cream sundaes instead.

LEMON SOOTHER SUNDAE: Fill a bowl or ice cream sundae dish with two scoops of vanilla frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream. Drizzle a tablespoon of Watkins Lemon Extract over the two scoops of ice cream. This lemony frosty treat is perfect for children who have just had a tonsillectomy. Children can eat this treat on the second day after their tonsillectomy. Children should avoid eating dairy foods right after a tonsillectomy because they can make the throat worse.

CHOCOLATE SUNDAE: Fill a bowl or ice cream sundae dish with two scoops of vanilla frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream. Drizzle a tablespoon of Watkins Chocolate Extract over the two scoops of ice cream for a traditional summertime treat. This chocolatey treat is perfect for those individuals who can’t have real chocolate like Hershey’s because of an allergic reaction or digestion problems.

CHERRY ALMOND SUNDAE: Fill a bowl or ice cream sundae dish with two scoops of vanilla or chocolate frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream. BUTTER PECAN SUNDAE: Fill a bowl or ice cream sundae dish with two scoops of vanilla frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream. Drizzle a tablespoon of Watkins Butter Pecan Extract over the two scoops of ice cream. This buttery treat is an economical alternative over buying a pint of Haagen-Daz Butter Pecan Ice Cream.

TROPICAL PARADISE SUNDAE: Fill a bowl or ice cream sundae dish with two scoops of vanilla frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream. Drizzle a teaspoon each of Watkins Mangoe, Peach & Pineapple Extracts over the two scoops of ice cream.
Next, put on some Calypso music, drag the lawn chair out and eat your sundae while you slowly float off to a tropical island paradise.

ROOTBEER FLOAT SUNDAE: Fill a bowl or ice cream sundae dish with two scoops of vanilla frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream. Drizzle a tablespoon of Watkins Rootbeer Extract over the two scoops of ice cream and let images of the movie, “American Graffiti” and carhops on rollerskates take you back to a simpler time. For the ultra-nostalgic experience, eat your rootbeer float sundae in an A&W rootbeer mug.

CHOCOLATE BANANA SUNDAE: Fill a bowl or ice cream sundae dish with two scoops of chocolate frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream. Drizzle a tablespoon of Watkins Banana Extract over the two scoops of ice cream and sit back and enjoy this decadent treat.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST SUNDAE: Fill a bowl or ice cream sundae dish with two scoops of vanilla frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream. First, drizzle a teaspoon of Watkins Butter Extract over the two scoops of ice cream and then add a teaspoon of Watkins Maple Extract. Top off sundae with two Jimmy Dean Maple Skinless Breakfast Sausage Links. This sundae is for pancake lovers, people who like to have a non-traditional breakfast and for those individuals who like odd food combinations.
