Interior Design Trends

Unlike sharp-toes stilettos and unwieldy wedges, upcoming home trends don’t sacrifice comfort. Though influenced by the runways, dÃ?©cor isn’t regulated by harsh “in” and “out” lists. This season, let your personal style be your guide. What’s hot? Home fashions inspired by your favorite movies, and innovations to support the way you already work and live.

Gypsy
The diversity of bohemian chic comes home. Eurway’s Lauren Travis notices customers are “mixing-and-match styles, pulling pieces from different genres. The jewel tones from fashion are trickling to furniture.”

Top Hat
The luxury of Old Hollywood entices. Martha Hardee of Capel Rugs calls the trend “glamorized.” “Think Dallas bling,” says Martha, “mirrored furniture, art deco and art nouveau pieces and velvet and satin fabrics, some with metallic or pearlized finishes.”

Urban Cowboy
Western gets a twist. Uniquely crafted furniture, like copper-topped dining tables imported from Mexico, can be found at The Arrangement. “The Lauren Brooks line features exquisite velvets and leather, for a more sophisticated Western look – almost a Victorian cowboy,” notes Elizabeth Simpson.

Modern Times
Constantly evolving technology brings innovations in TVs and computers, which make media rooms more fun, but might not work with existing furniture. Mike Crepeau of Charter Furniture Galleries has seen “more leg desks with more customers using laptops, and definitely more media pieces to accommodate new televisions.” With a custom-designed entertainment center from Stone Creek Furniture Factory, Tim Kennedy says, “We can build to order to house flat panels and drop down screens,” and for the home office “create from scratch efficient workspaces with plenty of organized areas and lots of storage.”

The Color Purple
Don’t be afraid of color! An eclectic palette accommodates a range of hues – all cool, clean colors. Chocolate brown, minty green and robin’s egg blue remain popular, and a bright mix of late 70’s hues gains ground: mustard, plum, copper, and salmon.
