Keeping a Happy and Healthy Pet

Usually, pets are easy to keep happy if you understand the basics of what makes animals feel secure and loved. People who choose pets should take time to study the particular breed of animal they want to bring home. Still, nutritious food, shelter, water to drink and much love are the elements for keeping a happy pet.

Nutritious Food to Eat

Knowing the proper foods and the correct amount for the species and breed is essential for the pet’s health and long life even if studying the types of food available takes a little time. For example, I have found that some of the most expensive dog food is not as nutritious as some of the brands priced lower. Meanwhile, the cheapest dog food is often filled with filler ingredients and provides an inferior diet.

A Home in which to Live

Animals are always happiest when the people in the home are peaceful and happy. After atmosphere, one of the best ways to establish a pet in a home is to have a particular spot for his or he own bed. A regular place for food and water is also important.

Of course, pets like to have companionship. They want to sleep and eat close to other family members. However, pets should never take over the home and take up the center of a human’s bed. Usually, I find that making them bed down on their own bed or pillow near where the people sleep is best.

If the people do not want the animal sleeping in the room with them at night, forcing them to sleep in a cold utility room by themselves or out in a dog house when the temperatures are too low or to high can be dangerous. Temperatures affect health and well-being. Humans and animals need comfortable and mild temperatures.

Making Pets Part of the Family

Owners should make clear to the pet what their position in the household is. Cats and lizards may just go about their daily routines somewhat more independently than dogs. With dogs, the need is much greater to know who is in charge-who is top dog.

If humans do not make consistent rules with dogs, the dogs will try to take over and be in charge. Dogs may jump on guests, bark loudly whenever they please and be a nuisance in many ways because they feel insecure in their role as leader in the home. They are calmer and better behaved when they can depend on humans to be in charge and keep order.

A Loving Relationship

The highest priority for your pet is to let them feel your love. I have found that pets can put up with inconveniences as long as I am happy, love them, and take time with them. Having a pet is a responsibility. They must have their physical needs and health attended. They need the simple needs met of shelter, water and food. Above all, pets need love.
