May Flower

April showers brought me here

But the June Bugs are crawling, oh so near

I stand with my friends in the sunshine bright

Rooted in the ground with all my might

And it occurs to me as I feel a bit jilted

That my pretty petals will soon be wilted

I’ll be trampled on by children playing in the leaves

Laughing and running in the cool of the eve’

Then I’ll cease to exist when the ground turns cold

And the trees and grass appear threadbare and old

But the ground will thaw as the air warms too

And mother Nature has a duty that she must continue

Soaking the ground with her April showers

Bringing forth yours truly, the little May Flower
