Picking Out the Perfect Aquarium Stand

Picking out a good aquarium stand is probably even more important than picking out a good aquarium. You might have purchased a nice looking acrylic aquarium but what good is it when it crashes and breaks on the living room floor. You will need to purchase a rock solid stand that will not crack or break over time. The best type of wood to choose is something that is solid oak or mohagony. You will need something that isn’t pine as pine is one of the least durable stands that you can purchase. Also take into account that water will probably get on the stand and cause it to warp over time. If you notice that your stand is starting to crack or break down you will need to purchase a new stand before the tank falls to the floor.

Purchasing a good stand is much more than going to your local pet store and purchasing a stand that goes well with your aquarium. You will want to purchase a stand which can support a lot of weight. The bigger your aquarium the more weight the stand will need to hold. I would never recommend purchasing a stand which is made out of metal or purchasing a discounted stand made by somebody locally. I am not saying that this stand will not hold up but when you have thousands of dollars invested into coral and fish you do not want to have it all crash to the floor overnight.

The best thing that you can do is research different stands and keep in mind that you get what you pay for. A really good place to purchase a stand from is www.LiveAquaria.com. They have great stands which you can purchase for a good price. You can buy a 100 gallon stand for around $400, which isn’t a bad price. Stands are more expensive than fish tanks. For example, you might be able to purchase a 55 gallon tank for $100 but the stand for the tank will cost you at least three times that amount for a decent stand.

Once you get the store where you are purchasing the tank you will want to look at each stand that you are considering. You will want to make sure that you can find an aquarium for the stand. You will want to make sure that the stand isn’t made from pine, which will start to crack over time. You will want to look for something which is nice and solid such as an oak stand. You can also purchase stands which are really fancy looking, but they are not made from solid wood or a good quality wood. Take a look at each stand and don’t settle for any stand just because you’re in a rush to get your fish tank set up. You won’t be able to add fish for at least 30 days anyway. Take your time and make sure to pick out a stand that you know will not crack or warp over time.

Make sure that you check the inside of the tank to make sure that everything looks right. You don’t want to get the stand home and then find out that one of the doors is already starting to crack. Make sure that all screws are in all the way and there’s no holes in the middle of the stand. If you are in doubt, keep doing your research. At least when you purchase a stand from the pet store you can actually see what you are getting. They usually sell display models at good prices but you have to worry about how long they were set up for and what happened to them.
