Popular Fishing Spots in the State of Maryland

The hot summer is just right around the corner and it is time to dust of the old fishing rod and get ready to cast the line into the water for fun fishing. Whether you are a occasional fisherman/woman, or an expert in the art of “rod casting” there are many piers all across the country for you to have hours of peace and enjoyment. In the state of Maryland, there are many fishing spots for you to go, but I decided to pick some of the most popular areas from my own experience and from word of mouth of other people.

Choptank River Fishing Pier

I’ve been to this pier several times and I have to say that the Choptank River Fishing Pier is my favorite fishing spot in Maryland. The long pier stretches from one end of the Choptank River to the other end. Choptank Pier is open 24 hours, 365 days a year. The pier is also lighted to encourage night fishing for the true fishermanâÂ?¦and woman. The variety of fish that can be caught in the Choptank river are perch, striped bass, hard heads, sea trout, and catfish. I have caught a couple of catfish on the pier, but most of the time I end up with croakers. Crabbing is also popular at this pier as well.

Point Lookout State Park

Scotland, MD 20687

Point Lookout State Park is the most complete state park in Maryland. In addition to numerous fishing spots on the premises, Point Looking has camping sites, a hunting area, and swimming area. There are also boating ramps for fisherman (and women) that want to go further out in the river. Cottages and Pavillions are also available for parties that wish to hold cookouts, reunions, and parties.

Solomons Island is a beautiful and peaceful getaway for fishing, sailing, and private parties. Charter Boats for fishing are also available. You can also go jetskiing, kayaking, or rent a boat and catch your own fish. Tours of the Island for the non fishermen and women are available.

Ocean City Maryland

You can either chill on the beach, shop until you drop, walk the beautiful boardwalk, or fish. There are several spots located all over the beach. There are three piers at ocean city and various spots where you can cast your fishing line into the ocean. Stripe bass, Croaker, and Spots are what I usually catch when I am in Ocean City. Crabbing is great in ocean city if you try it from one of the three piers available.
