Purchasing a Home: Don’t Regret It

So you’re sitting on the deck of your new home and you begin to realize why the house was on the market for so long. It’s great not having neighbors, but there may also be a good reason for this. As you look in the horizon you notice a huge nuclear power plant which you could swear, “was built last night.” Make sure that when you buy a home you pick a very good location. This is for two reasons: personal safety and reselling. You can fix everything on the house except for the location. Take a good look at the people around you and ask yourself, “Is this where I want my children to grow up?”

Don’t change your mind about the house that you like just because of who your neighbors are. As long as they keep to themselves and they are civilized human beings you can tolerate them. You don’t have to be friends just because you are neighbors. Learn to be more forgiving yet also stand your ground when the time is right. Don’t let people walk all over you and don’t walk all over other people.

Pick a house that has new updates. Take a look at the expenses you may have by purchasing this house. Keep into mind the property taxes and water bills. Pick a house which you can afford. Take a look at many different houses and don’t pick the first house that you see, take a long look around. There may be different houses which you like more than this house.

Take a look at the exterior of the house, is there brand new siding, new windows or a new roof? These things are very expensive and this means that you wont have to replace them for a long time. Other large expenses are appliances, carpeting, furnaces and air conditioning systems. Try to find a house with the most updates and least expenses.

Make a list of likes and dislikes of all the houses. Keep in mind the things you cannot change. Do not put your children last. Pick a home with a good school nearby. Fenced in yards are great to have, especially if you have children or pets. Take in mind the work involved with putting in a fence of your own.

If you don’t pick a house with recent updates you will want to take into consideration how much money it will cost you to replace some things. It could cost you over $20,000 to replace all the flooring, siding and roof. You will want to calculate how much money you can spend on each update throughout the house.
