Review of Ajax Dish Soap

Even though we do have a portable dishwasher, my wife and I still do the majority of our dishes by hand (it’s just faster). And, as a result of this, we usually need to buy dish soap once every 3 or 4 weeks.

The last time we ran out was just before payday and my wife picked up a bottle of Ajax Dish Soap because, at the time, it was the most affordable brand. For the most part, we haven’t noticed much of a difference between dish soap brands and figured this would work just as well as the brands we usually buy. Unfortunately, we couldn’t have been more wrong.

I did my best to give this brand the benefit of the doubt. But, compared to other brands that are out there for not much more money, it just wasn’t that good.

First of all, when it came to cleaning power, this brand lacked something. It didn’t cut through grease like other brands and, more often than not, we found we had to re-wash a pan a couple times just to get it clean. Considering it was advertised as containing a “bleach alternative,” I was both surprised and disappointed by this.

Another thing I found I didn’t like about this brand was the longevity. Normally, I can put some dish soap on my sponge and it will be enough to wash a sink’s worth of dishes. With this brand, I typically had to reapply the soap a couple different times. And, when I filled the sink with water (the more traditional way of washing dishes that I actually don’t like), I couldn’t help but notice the soap bubbles lacked the same quantity as other brands and disappeared much quicker.

As a result of that, we went through this bottle of dish soap in a little over two weeks, a minimum of one week less than we normally can make a bottle of dish soap last us. This meant it also lacked any real value money wise too since any money we saved on it would be lost by having to buy a new bottle more often.

While I can find fault with my wife for trying to save us some money when she purchased this brand, I can honestly say it is a product neither of us has any intention of buying again.
