Spending Too Much Time on the Computer?

Many stay at home parents spend a lot of time online, as well as those who work. But how much is really too much time on the computer? There are several things that are a sure indication that you need to cut down your daily computer time. First of all if you find that when you sit down at the computer, you only plan to check email and that’s it, but you actually end up on the computer a lot longer, there is a problem. Some people say they sit down at the computer and before they know it four or five hours have just flown by.

If you work and you notice that you do not have enough time to get your work done, it may because you spend to much time doing other things. Just think about it for a minute. Most people start by checking their email first, this usually takes at least a good twenty minutes for most people. Although for others it may take a lot longer.

Than some will usually spend some time just surfing the net. You may be doing some online shopping or just looking up information on a particular topic. Either way time is quickly flying by while you are online. If you work in the office than common sense will tell you that unless it is work related you should not be online. That really can wait until you get home. If you are a stay at home parent however, you may just turn on the television to keep your kids quite, so you can stay online all day.

When this does happen nothing gets done or accomplished. Your family usually ends up feeling very neglected and the house is usually a mess. If you are one of those who is spending way too much time online you need to take some action now. The first thing that you need to do if you are a stay at home parent, is to set up a computer schedule for yourself. This will allow you to check your email, do any online shopping you need to do, or look up some information. The key is to keep this time frame down to only an hour. If you need a little more time than that, you could add an extra hour to your schedule in the evening.

The best thing to do is get up early in the morning while everyone is still asleep and spend an hour online doing what you need to do. Than you can finish whatever you did not get done in the evening after everyone has gone to bed. This is also a great idea for anyone who works as well. Keep your personal stuff at home not at the office. The other great thing about limiting your online time to the morning and the evening hours, is that you will more than likely be too tired to stay online line for an extended period of time. Once you adjust to your new schedule you will see how much more time you have left in your day. It will not only make you a happier person, but will help to make your family a lot happier too.
