Top Ten Songs by Taylor Hicks

Are you wondering, how could I come up with Top Ten Songs by Taylor Hicks? Taylor Hicks is a recently discovered American Idol. Although he is a new artist to the music business without his first official full CD release, he has been singing and trying to get discovered for 10 years. In that 10 years he recorded two CD’s on his own before being on Idol and fans found these CD’s after seeing Taylor Hicks on American Idol. From these two CDs and his new American Idol debut single release I have compiled my favorite Top Ten Songs by Taylor Hicks.

In 1997 Taylor Hicks released the album titled In Your Time (which can no longer be bought because Taylor will be re-recording some of the songs on the album) in 2005 he released the album titled Under the Radar.

My Top Ten Songs by Taylor Hicks are as follows;

10) The Deal – From Under the Radar – Taylor Hicks plays guitar in this song. This song is about confessing your love for someone, letting them know your love is real and you will be where they are.

9) Hell of a Day – From Under the Radar – This song has a lot of heart and soul in it. It is about a love coming to an end.

8) Takin’ it to the Streets – B side of American Idol Debut Single Do I Make You Proud – This song was first released by the Doobie Brothers in 1976. It was also the first song to feature Michael McDonald, who curiously enough is a man that Taylor Hicks has been compared to sounding like. Takin’ it to the Streets is a fan favorite at the American Idol Tour Concerts.

7) West Texas Sky – From Under the Radar – The first time I heard this song I loved it. It transported me back in time when I was home with my parents listening to their favorite country music. It made me realize my Dad would love to have heard the voice of Taylor Hicks. This sounds like a country song with a soul vibe thrown in.

6) Hold On To Your Love – From Under The Radar – A beautiful love song telling how important it is to let someone know how you feel, if you want to hold on to that love.

5) Do I Make You Proud? – Debut Single from Arista Records – This song has been called cheesy by some. I do not feel this way. Taylor Hicks makes this song great. It is a perfect song for any time in life when someone is wondering if they made someone proud of them. It could be for a Father/Daughter dance at a wedding, for a graduation and fans have sent copies of the CD oversees to the troops to lift the morale’s and let them know they do make us proud.

4) My Friend – From Under the Radar – This song is very up beat. It is one of the faster tempo songs Taylor has written thus far. It is a feel good song and the best part is hearing Taylor Hicks play the harmonica.

3) Soul Thing – From Under the Radar – This is another song with a little more beat to it. Even my eleven year old daughter loves it. A lyric in the songs says “It ain’t no groove thing, It ain’t no country twang, It’s a simple refrain; It’s a soul thang.” This is sure true of the song it has soul sound to it but it has a country twang sound to. I could imagine hearing this song played on country radio stations.

2) Heart and Soul – From Under the Radar – Heart and Soul has been one of my favorites since I first discovered the music of Taylor Hicks. The lyrics and meaning to this song are beautiful and the sound of Taylor Hicks voice is really showcased.

1) The Fall – From In Your Time – This song makes my number 1 choice of Top Ten Songs by Taylor Hicks. This is a love song about letting a love go because life is just to hectic to spend the time needed on the relationship and realizing sometimes if you love someone you will let them go because it is better for them. That is my take from the song. Taylor Hicks wrote this song for an ex-girlfriend. This song as a lot of feeling in it and you can tell it in Taylor Hicks voice. This song is also one that is being said to be re-mastered and re-recorded. It is perfect to me, but I can’t wait to hear it after it is redone.

So there you have it, my Top Ten Songs by Taylor Hicks. Give them a listen and find your favorites.
