Twelve Easy Steps to a Clean Bathroom

Your bathroom leaves an important impression on the people who use it. Unfortunately, we don’t always have time or energy to do a thorough cleaning. Here’s the step-by-step guide I’ve always used for cleaning my bathroom quickly when company is coming or any day.

1. Remove all items that don’t belong in the bathroom. Put them away. Do this right away. If you wait to put the items away it may never get done. Don’t just put them in the room they belong in, put them exactly where they belong. This will save you time when Remove everything from the bathroom that doesn’t belong there. Put it away. I suggest that you you clean that room.

2. Put all the obvious trash into the trash can. Don’t forget soap slivers, used disposable razors and empty shampoo containers from the tub/shower.

3. If you have a cat litter box in the bathroom, empty it, clean it and re-fill it. Leave it outside the bathroom until you are done cleaning so that you may freely clean the floors. Use a litter box liner if possible to save yourself from a dirty job next time.

4. Remove all items from all surfaces, shelves and the medicine cabinet. Throw away or give away any items you are not using or that you have not used in six months. Dispose of outdated medication as well. Do not flush outdated medicine as it can get into the water supply.

5. Use a duster on all non-porcelain surfaces. This makes it easier to wipe them down.

6. Wipe non-porcelain surfaces with a spray cleaner and cloth. Use window cleaner for your medicine cabinet mirror or any metal or glass surfaces. If you wish to use something ecological try a small amount of vinegar mixed with water. It will clean and disinfect all your surfaces safely.

7. Remove all items from tub/shower, toilet, and sink. Once again throw away or give away any items you have not used in the past six months.

8. Clean tub/shower, toilet, and sink. If you prefer an environmentally friendly cleaner, try a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. This is also a disinfectant. For stubborn soap scum, wet down and leave to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing. For staining, sprinkle with Comet or other bleaching powder, wet, and let sit for 15 minutes before scrubbing.

9. Return all items to tub/shower, sink and toilet. Use this opportunity to organize your items. Put them in easy reach. To avoid nasty soap scum use liquid soap with a refillable pump container.

10. Sweep the floor using a fine bristle broom. This way you will be sure to pick up all the fine hairs from brushing and shaving.

11. Mop the bathroom with a liquid disinfectant cleaner mixed with water. Once again you may use vinegar and water as an economical and ecological cleaner.

12. Take out trash. Clean the trash can with a disinfectant cleaner. When you replace the liner, layer several liners to save yourself time next cleaning. This way you can remove them one at a time and have a fresh one underneath.
