Van’s Wheat and Gluten Free Waffles

Van’s wheat and gluten free waffles are a fantastic product for those with specialty diets necessitated by celiac disease, other allergic conditions, and lifestyle choices. More than any other gluten-free food I have tried, Van’s Gluten-free waffles are indistinguishable from regular, gluten containing varieties in look, taste and texture. In addition Van’s gluten free waffles are also vegan and as such contain no eggs or dairy. Van’s gluten free waffles also contain no cholesterol and have no trans fat.

Each serving of Van’s gluten-free waffles contains five grams of fiber. A combination of brown rice flour, potato starch and soy flour create the perfect waffle texture – slightly crisp on the outside, firm and doughy on the inside. There’s no dryness, powdery texture or crumbling here (and I challenge you to find another gluten free product the same can be said about). These gluten free waffles also only use fruit juice (pears, pineapple, and peaches) for sweetening.

Van’s gluten free waffles come in several flavors including Original, Blueberry, Flax, and Apple Cinnamon. They also offer a gluten free mini waffle product. Consumers should be aware, however, that Van’s has many varieties of waffles that are not gluten free, and while the packages are clearly labeled should always be doubled checked. Not all Van’s products are gluten-free.

For those unable to find Van’s gluten-free and other products in their area, they can be purchased online through the wellness grocer website (linked from the Van’s homepage).

Van’s gluten free products are not made in a dedicated facility, meaning that cross contamination is technically possible on premises. However, Van’s does take special steps to make sure their gluten free products are not contaminated. As a very sensitive celiac, who generally cannot eat products made in the same facilities as those products containing gluten, I can report never having had a problem with Van’s gluten free products, much to my delight and surprise. I would encourage giving them a chance, even if this type of production environment would ordinarily cause you to avoid a particular gluten free food. I passed them over in the supermarket several times before finally succumbing to my craving, and was delighted to discover I had absolutely no gluten reaction to them at all.

Van’s is serious about their commitment to gluten-free products and actively supports celiac disease research through The Center for Celiac Research.. Hopefully in time Van’s will add additional flavors to their gluten free line-up (chocolate chip and strawberry exist in their regular product lines).
