Streeterville is one of Chicago’s most expensive neighborhoods. Besides being pricey real-estate there is quite a lot to do in Streeterville. Whether you like to shop, tour art museums, bask in the sun, or meat up with friends for a cold one Streeterville is the Place to be.

The Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago was named after an infamous character referred to as “Pa Streeter.” This valuable real-estate is all on man made land stemming from a sand bar incident Mr. Streeter had. Thanks to him, most of the tourists that come to Chicago make their way through the Streeterville neighborhood never knowing they were even there.

Magnificent Mile

Michigan Avenue is some of the most fabulous shopping in the world. Luxury stores like Saks, Coach, Tiffany and company, Le Perle and more line this destination street. The magnificent mile stretches through the Streeterville neighborhood and Gold Cost Neighborhoods of Chicago.

Ohio Street Beach

At the end of Ohio Street, about a block or two away from Navy Pier you have the Ohio Street beach. Located in Streeterville it is a fabulous place to take a stroll on one of the Lake Michigan paths, ride a bike, or take a cool dip in the chilly water. Families lounge away sunny summer days here. There are life guards and plenty of fun for free.

Contemporary Museum of Art

Tuesday: 10 am to 8 pm
Wednesday through Sunday: 10 am to 5 pm
Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day: Closed

Admission to Chicago’s Contemporary Museum of Art is free all day on Tuesdays, so take advantage of this opportunity. You don’t often find too much free stuff in Chicago. In the fall the lines are not too long because the kids are back in school. In the summer though, expect wait on Tuesday as hoards of people wait in line for free admission.

Hotels

There are endless amounts of hotels in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago. They service all the business types and tourists visiting Chicago. Located steps from Michigan avenue they can be a little pricey. For a more affordable option check out the Holiday Inn on the corner of Fairbanks and Ontario. Room rates are about $100 a night and you are only 2 blocks from both Michigan Avenue and the Contemporary Museum of Art. The red Roof Inn is also very affordable. Rooms come in under $100 in the winter, but they are really small. Cheek them out at www.redroofinn.com. Be sure to book ahead of time because hotels easily fill up in Streeterville.

Timmy O’Toole’s

Timmy O’Toole’s is the requisite sports bar and drinking hole in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago. It is located in the basement of a building. You lose cell service, but this just forces you to mingle and meet new people. The crowd is a loud mix of locals living in the neighborhood and tourists packed in for a football game or two. Seriously, if you are visiting Chicago in the fall and want to watch a Sunday football game here you better arrive an hour before the first game starts.
