Worst Date Ever

I had just divorced my abusive husband a few months prior, and I attempted to get back into the dating scene. It had been six years since I dated, and I didn’t know where to begin. However, my cousin, who was more like my brother, was bound and determined he was going to set me up. He arranged for me to have my first blind date with a friend of his from college. Not only was I nervous about dating again, but I had never went on a blind date before. I didn’t want to hurt my cousin’s feelings so I thought, what the heck, why not. I’ll give it a try.

While I was in my apartment getting all primped up and ready to go, my cousin dropped in (he only lived two doors down). He was going to help my mom babysat my 6 year old daughter while I went on my date. While he was there I asked him if he ever got the guys last name, and he told me he forgot to ask. Because he had forgotten to get my date’s last name, I only knew his first name, and I’ll call him Jason.

I had just put my shoes on when I heard a knock at the door. Nervously I walked over and answered the door – I knew it was Jason. When I opened up the door my stomach dropped, and I know my face turned red. I quickly contained myself and invited him in. My cousin knew by the way I reacted that something was up, and you can bet I was going to tell him. I excused myself for a moment by telling Jason that I forgot something. I went back to my bedroom and my cousin followed. While in the bedroom I told him that I knew this guy.

“Who is it,” he whispered softly so Jason couldn’t hear our conversation.
“It’s Jason Jones, my ex sister-in-law’s ex husband.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know. What are you going to do?”
“Well first you can quit laughing at me. I’m going to go ahead and go. I mean he came all the way up here, I can’t be rude.”

Soon after Jason and I left, but when I got into his truck I was greeted by his little boy. Now let me just say, I love kids, but to bring them with you on your first date. But what made things worse was Jason remembered me too, and that made a dreadfully quiet car ride. I broke the silence by asking him where we were going.
“Is McDonalds okay?”
I managed to hold back my laughter as I told him “McDonalds was fine,” but the whole time I thought he was just trying to get off cheap. Or maybe it was because of the little boy. Who knows.

When we arrived at McDonalds I ordered a coke and a quarter pounder with cheese. After we received our food, we took a seat at the booth. The conversation was light, and most of the time all I heard was Jason telling his son to settle down and behave.
After leaving McDonalds, a whole 35 minutes later, we ended up at Jason’s house. It turned out his older son was home, and Jason said he thought he would leave the boy with his older son this time. We spent about an hour at Jason’s house, and the whole time I was there I stood and watched him clean up his house a bit, and not much was said. I couldn’t believe what was happening. I thought I would give it a chance, but I knew from the moment we sat down at McDonalds that it wasn’t going to happen again.

I was thankful when Jason delivered me back home. I said good night and told him to take care. He told me the same and drove off. When I went into my apartment, my cousin was sitting on the couch waiting to hear all about it, and I told him every single detail. Of course, being himself, he apologized, but he laughed his butt off. I told him it wasn’t his fault, but I also told him I would never go on another blind date again!
