The original Isle of Wight festivals took place from 1968 to 1970. Foulk Brothers were the organizers of the festival. They were able to attract big names like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. The newest version has no affiliation to the older festival but has taken many aspects of the classic version. The new IOW Festival started in 2002 an is run by Solo Music Agency. It has chosen Seaclose Park as its center point and has progressively expanded further. Just as before contemporary mega artists have performed at the event in recent years.
The main attraction is the music and the artists. The Main Arena is where all the big name artists perform, while lesser known acts has stages all around the site. The venue also supports camping so that people attending the festival can have a proper place to stay. There is also an area called the KidsZone which has entertainment and games for children. The whole event venue is lined with concession stands and drinks bars so that people can easily purchase refreshments. The festival tries to be eco- friendly as possible and calls this aspect Ecoaction. There are several exhibits about environmentally friendly sujects including The Hive.
