Difference between Medic and Paramedic

Every field nowadays is becoming more and more complex and increased specialties are being introduced as people advance in their knowledge of these fields. Same is true for the field of medicine.

Gone are the days when the only difference was the one in doctors being surgeons and physicians. There are many jobs in healthcare now that are less complicated in nature. In case there is a medical emergency of a small nature, there are skilled professionals who are not doctors yet can take care of the patient.

Medics and paramedics now are an important part of the field. Although these two are used together, there are differences which are pretty obvious.

A medic is not as trained as much as a paramedic. Medics are only allowed to do some basic management where as paramedics can indulge into advanced techniques usage as well if the situation calls for it.

The greatest difference is indeed in training as medics generally get around 150 hours of training as opposed to paramedics who may be trained up to 1800 hours.

    Paramedics

These are highly trained professionals some of whom have acquired two year college degrees in the field. In case of emergencies, paramedics can assume a crucial role and can administer injections as well as perform certain other tasks of importance at that point in time.

They are sometimes called EMTs as well which stands for an Emergency Medical Technician. They are often a part of emergency response teams. The job can be pretty stressful when there is an emergency.

There are college degrees available for paramedics which have a length of two years. The pay of a paramedic is quite reasonable.

    Medics

Medics are moderately trained personnel in the field of healthcare who provide support to medical staff. They are not allowed to perform functions such as giving injections in general.

There are certificate trainings that are available for medics but no degrees of any kind exist. They can be a part of emergency response teams and can perform certain functions that support the work of others.

The job can certainly be pretty daunting in an emergency. The pay is reasonable but not out of the world certainly.
