Difference between Need and Drive

Need and drive are two psychological concepts which are used to illustrate different human behaviours. Need is something which is necessary for one’s existence and must be fulfilled. Everyone has certain physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs, which must be met. Drive, on the other hand, is the cause which motivates a person to work hard to achieve a goal. Many people get confused between need and drive, but these are two different concepts.

Most people in this world are satisfied with the idea of need because it is something compulsory for our existence. However, people, who achieve greatness in life, are driven by some kind of a motivation, which brings the best out of them.

In simple words, need is a requirement which has to be fulfilled; whereas, our needs create a state of arousal, which is called drive.
