Difference Between VPS and Cloud Instance Hosting

Computers have become a part and parcel of our daily lives and it is hard to imagine life without them. In recent times, the technology related to computers has been rapidly moving forward.

Not only the hardware and software technology has improved but there has been many changes that allow a lot of flexibility to users in many ways. One may not have the required hardware for certain purposes yet they can make use of what is available with others who are willing to provide the service. Internet has played a crucial role in this technology revolution.

VPS or the Virtual Private Server and Cloud Instance Hosting are two terms one often comes across in this premise. They both perform similar functions as they provide hardware support to clients from a remote location but there are certain differences between the two that make them unique from each other.

The software in VPS is run on a single computer system. On the other hand, in Cloud Instance Hosting, the hardware is implemented upon the software and there are several computers that are a part of the system instead of just one.

The resources that are allocated in VPS are limited for any client. In case a client reaches the limit and more space is required, it has to be dealt with by an administrator. This may be done by moving the client to another server which adds to the downtime. On the other hand, in Cloud Instance Hosting the software itself can allocate the resources on the basis of needs and thus helps in optimising the use of resources and cutting the downtime to a minimum.

The downtime associated with the maintenance of the hardware is a minimum in case of Cloud Instance Hosting since data can be moved to other computers. In the case of Virtual Private Server, it has to be physically moved and thus when maintenance takes place, downtime will naturally kick in.
