Dubai Internet City Overview

Dubai Internet City (DIC) is a technology park that is located within a Free Zone in Dubai. The area was developed by the government of Dubai to act as the hub for ICT in the regions developing information technology market. DIC also serves as a central location for businesses dealing in the ICT sector to access the North African market place.

The major advantage of Dubai Internet City is the free economic zone benefits offered by the Dubai government including full ownership, tax benefits and import/export benefits. These factors have attracted some of the largest companies in the world to the technology park and include names like Microsoft, Cisco and Dell. According to the latest numbers, 850 companies operate in DIC and employee over 10,000 staff members.

    History

    DIC began its struggle to become the largest ICT infrastructure in the Middle East in October 2000. At the time the fledgling venture wise finance by Dubai Holding through its subsidiary TECOM Investments. The launch of DIC was a success and 100 companies signed up in early 2000. By 2004 DIC has added another venture called Dubai Outsource Zone. The next year DIC became a member of the international smart community network. Another milestone was reached in 2006 when DIC family grew to 900 companies.

    Operational Hours

    Even though each company in DIC has its own timings the offices for the mangemt are open from 7:30am to 4:30pm during the work week which is Sunday through Thursday.

    How to Get to Dubai Internet City

    By Metro

    Nakheel Metro Station 1 and 2 are the nearest metro stops to the Dubai Internet City. Exit on Sheikh Zayed Road and head northeast about 300 meters and then turn left. There will come a roundabout, pass through it and then turn slight right after 100 meters, then take another right for round 40 meters and turn left you will see destination on left.

    By Bus

    The closest bus stop is right in DIC and is called Dubai Internet City Building 5 stop. Bus route number 83 and 85 can be used to get here. View Map.
