Wimbledon Tube Station London

Wimbledon Tube station is the only station on the entire London underground that gives commuters the ability to switch from tube to a train or tram. The station was built in 1838 for trains, added the tube service in 1889, and then finally included the tram in 1997 while now accommodating all three services in one location. The station has had to be rebuilt over the years to upgrade new technology and add more space. It is interesting to mention that the first time the station got a makeover was when electric trains were brought in 1905. Another re-construction came in the 1920s, and the final upgrade came in 1997. Today, the station offers customers many amenities and facilities including ATM machine, telephone, taxi rank, car park, vending machines, toilets and photo booth. The Wimbledon tube station also has special arrangements for commuters with physical disabilities including staff assistance, disabled parking and bathrooms, and facilities for partially blind. The station is quite large and has two main entrances on Center Court and the other on Wimbledon Hill Road. These lead to the ticketing booths and also exit back on to street.
