Cook time: 30 minutes
Serving Size: 08
Utensils needed: saucepan, spoon or fork, stove, refrigerator, knife, colander strainer, knife, wooden sticks or plastic dowels, tray, greased cookie sheets
- 8 apples - Granny Smith apples are preferred
- 8 wooden sticks or plastic dowels
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup water
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon red food coloring
- Sprinkles for decorating - optional
Select 8 fresh, firm and medium sized apples and place them in a colander strainer. Now, rinse them thoroughly under the cold running water. Drain the apples and wipe them dry with a clean piece of cloth or kitchen towel.
Now, set the apples aside until you prepare the candy coating.
Grab a small non-sticking saucepan and pour I cup of clean cold water into it. Set the saucepan on stove with medium-high heat range and leave the water to boil. Now, add in 3 cups of granulated sugar and ½ cup of light corn syrup. Stir for few seconds until the sugar dissolves completely.
Now, place a candy thermometer into the non-sticking saucepan, increase the heat range of the stove. Boil this mixture until it arrives at 300 degrees Fahrenheit on your candy thermometer.
Note: Make sure not to stir the solution once the sugar is dissolved and you increased the heat range.
In the mean time, line a large tray with the greased cookie sheets and set aside.
Turn off the heat of the stove, remove the sauce pan and place it on your kitchen counter.
Stir in¼ teaspoon of red food coloring and same quantity of ground cinnamon. Continue stirring until both of the ingredients mix up with the syrup solution.
Pull the coated apples out of the candy mixture and hold them above the saucepan for few second or until the excess mixture drip off thoroughly. Now, place the candy coated apples on the pre-lined tray and refrigerate until harden.
The decoration of the Halloween Candy Apples is totally optional as it is up to you that either you want to decorate them with various sprinkles or not. If you want to decorate them, then simply roll them in your favorite sprinkles before placing them on the greased tray.
Note: Roll the coated apples from all sides, ensuring that they are equally coated.
Once the candy apples are hardened completely, remove them from refrigerator and serve immediately.
