How Do I Get a Kid’s Room Organized

Almost all the parents of world face the challenge of organizing their kids’ bedroom or playroom. They put children’s clothes, toys, books and stuffed animals in order everyday but the room presents same old view very next morning. Things become more difficult on birthdays, holidays and parties as kids join their friends and spread these things all over the floor to double the trouble.

Kids rooms are not less than battle fields for parents as children do not like their stuff to be touched by any one and if they feel that something is missing they will start yelling and crying. Parents have to tread carefully while making all the changes and arrangements in their bedrooms or play rooms.

Though, it seems an uphill task to organise kids room but here is a sigh of relief for you as we are going to teach you to keep each and every thing in order. All you need is to follow these steps given under.

    First of all, get in the right frame of mind. Ask yourself that why are you doing this? What you want to achieve by this exercise?  Do not take it as job rather make it an enjoyable activity.

    Make a list of your child’s possessions like clothing, shoes, books, toys, souvenirs and mementos. Start from the big items and keep on writing all the way to smaller ones. You may hand over this list to your kid for daily check.

    Now think from his/her mind and start arranging all these things the way he/she would like it to be. Follow “bottom to top” strategy which means big, favourite and commonly used items on the floor level. Similarly, all those things which require supervision or they are breakables should be fitted in upper shelves.

    Organise all the stuff in a way that it should be easier to put away than to get out. You may use zip-lock plastic bags for small pieces, net hammock for stuffed toys, magnetic rails for metal cars and transparent files for their art work etc.

    Label all the boxes, drawers and shelves. You can use pictures of all the items to tell your child that where he should put all these things.

    Engage your kids in this process. Give them simple and small tasks like request them to count all the cars or puzzle pieces. This exercise will elevate their learning abilities and give them a sense of responsibility.

    Make pickup a nightly ritual to keep their rooms nice and clean permanently. Ask them to spend ten or fifteen minutes before hitting bed and you will see the magic prevailing.
