How to Change the Boot Order BIOS on an IBM 300Pl

If you own an IBM 300 series desktop computer, then you should know that your “Boot settings” is set to your local hard drive, to boot the operating system installed on it. Sometimes it happens that you need to change the boot sequence, in order to boot your computer from any other device, such as a floppy disk or a CD.

Booting your computer from floppy disks and CDs allows you to install a fresh copy of Windows. So, if you are planning to change the boot sequence of your IBM 300 series computer, then you will have to access your computer’s Basic Input Output System (BIOS) menu.

    Close all the applications that are running and turn off your computer. Turn it back on and press F1 key when you see "Configuration/Setup Utility" prompt appearing at the bottom of your computer screen.

    You will now see a new menu appearing on your screen, where you have to highlight the "Start Options" entry. For that purpose, you will have to press the down arrow key four times on your keyboard.

    Press “Enter” to open the “Start Options” window. Here, you will have to locate the "Startup Sequence" entry and highlight it using your arrow keys once again. Once the entry is highlighted, press the “Enter” key again.

    Now scroll down and highlight the "First Startup Device” entry and press the “Enter” key. You will now see a list of devices installed on your computer, which you can use to boot your computer. Select the device you want to use and press the “Enter” key. For instance, if you have a bootable windows CD and you want your computer to boot from it, then you should select your respective CD ROM drive which you use to run the CDs.

    Once you are done with selecting your desired boot device, press the “Esc” key twice on your keyboard, and highlight "Save Settings" entry, before you press the “Enter” key. Turn off your IBM computer and turn it back on to boot from the device you selected.
