How to Cook Necie’s Cornbread Stuffing

Making homemade cornbread stuffing is not at all a difficult task. The main ingredients of this delicious recipe include fresh cornbread, soft bread crumbs and diced chicken or turkey. Mix the ingredients, flavour with the seasonings of your choice and bake for 20 to 30 minutes in a preheated oven (400 degrees F).

Yield: 6 servings
Utensils: Oven, stove, a large mixing bowl, a small bowl, saucepan, a shallow baking pan measuring 10″ x 15″, parchment paper, measuring cups and measuring spoons.

Ingredients:
Crumbled cornbread: 6 cups
Soft bread crumbs: 3 cups
Butter: 4 ounces
Onion, chopped: 2 cups
Finely chopped celery: 2 cups
Chicken/ turkey broth: 3 to 4 cups
Chicken/ turkey, diced, optional: 2 cups
Dried sage, crumbled: 1 tablespoon
Dried leaf thyme, crumbled: 1 1/2 teaspoons
Dried marjoram, crumbled: 1 teaspoon
Dried rosemary, chopped: 1/2 teaspoon
Salt: 1 teaspoon
Freshly ground black pepper: 1/2 teaspoon
Eggs: 2

Instructions

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Take a large mixing bowl and put six cups of cornbread crumbs into it. Also add three cups of crumbled soft bread to the bowl and toss well to combine.

    Take a saucepan and melt four ounces of unsalted butter in it on low heat. Sauté two cups each of onion and celery (both finely chopped) in the melted butter until tender.

    Once sautéed, remove the vegetables from the stove and add to the bowl containing the bread mixture and toss well to combine.

    Add chicken or turkey broth spoon by spoon to the bread and vegetable mixture, stirring constantly, until the mixture has moistened.

    Now stir in diced chicken or turkey (whichever you are using).

    In a small bowl break two eggs, whisk them lightly and pour into the bowl containing bread, vegetables and chicken chunks.

    Season the recipe with one tablespoon of dried sage, one and a half teaspoons of dried leaf thyme, one teaspoon of dried marjoram, half teaspoon of dried rosemary, one teaspoon salt and half teaspoon freshly ground black pepper.

    Muddle all the ingredients with a mixing spoon until combined well.

    Take a 10" x 15" shallow baking pan, line it with parchment paper and grease with butter.

    Spread the mixture evenly on the pan and bake it in an oven preheated at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes or until crisp and brown.
