    Keep the surroundings in mind

While deciding colours, the first thing you should keep in mind is the location. If you are having an outdoor photo session then you can wear dark colours. The reason is that there will be a light background in the picture and light colors will be washed out. However, beaches are the exception, as light tones will be more pleasing for the eyes. Similarly, keep the tone mild if you’re posing indoors.

    Complexion

To decide an appropriate colour for your family shoot, you should also consider skin tones. Family members with dark complexions should wear whites as these colours will perk up their personality. Similarly, people with light skin tones can wear dark colours but make sure that the selected colours are not dull and depressing.

Imagine the grandfather wearing yellow, green or any bright colour whereas the younger ones sport grey. Such color combinations will ruin your family photo, and you need to advise your family members to opt for colors according to their ages, genders and overall appearances.

The senior members of the group should wear dark and decent colours while the younger lot should look bright and energetic. All professional photographers believe that visual harmony has nothing to do with contrast or matching.
