How to Delete Windows .Msp Files

Whenever Microsoft Office program runs an update, it creates MSP package files and save them to your computer’s installer folder. When the update gets completed, the MSP files usually get deleted automatically. However, you may also have to delete them manually, if you find that they are still present in the Installer folder, even after the update is complete. When it comes to deleting the MSP files manually, you should be very careful, as deleting some files can corrupt your Microsoft Office data files, while others can easily be deleted without causing any issue.

    To delete the MSP files, you will have to open your computer’s Installer folder. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, then you can open your “Start” menu and write “installer folder,” without the quotes, in the search field. You will then see the Installer folder appearing in the search results. Click on it to open it.

    If you are using an older version of windows, such as Windows XP or Millennium, then you will have to open your “Start” menu and open “My Computer”. Now you need to open you C drive and double click the Installer folder to open it.

    Now you will have to write down the names of all the files present in the folder with MSP file extension. For make this easier, you just write the names of the files in MS Word document.

    Now open your “Start” menu again and write “regedit” in the search box, without quotes. In the search results, you will have to click on the “Registry Editor” icon. If you are using an older version of Windows, then you will have to open your “Start” menu and select “Run”. Write “regedit,” without quotes and click “OK”.

    The Registry Editor window will now appear on the screen. You have to click on “My Computer” and select “Find” from the “Edit” menu.

    Into the search bar, write down any one name from the list of MSP file names you copied on your MS Word document. Wait for few seconds and if you do not see the registry file after the “finished searching through the registry” message appears on your screen, then you can just go to the Installer folder and delete the specific file. If the search result shows the file listed under the “Data” column, then you should delete the file, as it may corrupt Microsoft Office’s data.

    Repeat step 6 for each file name you have in your MS Word document.
