How to Do an Axel Jump in Figure Skating

Figure skating is one of the hardest things to master out there. This is because you need to learn so many other things before you can actually become a good figure skater. You need to go on and learn how to balance your body, ice skate, do some jumps on ice and you need to learn how to be flexible amongst other things as well.

Now the axel jump is regarded to be one of the hardest, if not the hardest jump to pull off in figure skating. It sees a skater go on and used all of their potential in order to show the crowd and spectators, just what it is that they are capable off.

However, it takes a lot of practice to master the axel jump and sometimes it could even take years to execute it properly.

    Before you attempt to do an axel jump, you need to loosen yourself up. Do some warm up laps around the ring and get yourself adjusted to it. Now do some practice crossovers and a Mohawk, in order to get your footwork up and running.

    Now try and slide backwards, but while doing this extend your back as much as you can, to make it look a lot better aesthetically.

    After doing this, go ahead and push yourself forward. Bend down the stronger knee that you have, and get into to position to do a jump. Bend your arms and take your elbows back as well. This will help give you momentum and reduce the resistance of the wind as you move forward, looking to jump.

    Now swing your free leg forward, and make it come in front. As you are bringing it up ahead, bend the knee on that leg, so that you can pull off the jump.

    Pull your arms forward after this, and then begin to jump up in the air.

    Now pull your arms in to your chest and cross the standing leg over the free leg that you had just gone on to swing forward.

    While you are up in the air, go ahead and pull off one and a half rotations. After you are done with these rotations, go ahead and prepare your body to land down. When you hit the ice, look to the toe of your blade and then slide it in. Then look to slowly get your body back to its original shape.
