First of all, you need to consult the owner’s manual. Every camcorder comes with a booklet. Consult the photograph that describes each part of the camcorder with arrows.
A camcorder may have several ports. So, you are supposed to identity and understand each of them. Among the standard ports on a camcorder are: audio, video, memory card and data. Every port is different from the rest, and you are required to know the function of each one.
Generally, the IEEE 1394 port is located right next to the RCA audio and video output ports. It may vary though, depending on the design of the camcorder. Since these ports are very sensitive, the manufacturers usually use a flip-up cover to keep them safe. Look for the cover on the rear or side of the camera.
The IEEE 1394 port is a very small 4-pin port. It generally measures about a quarter inch across. You will also notice that the ends of this port are rounded.
The manufacturers also label this part generally as FireWire or as 1394. This labelling would further make things easier for you.
