How to Install Subwoofers in a Car

Installing subwoofers in a car is not quite difficult. All you need is a little time and some specialised tools to get the job done.

Things Required:

– Wire strippers
– 12 gauge or bigger wire (10 gauge, 8 gauge, etc)
– Large power cord (ideally red)
– Knife
– Screws, washers, nuts, and possibly a little weather stripping (for padding) for the installation for the amp.
– Wire tester (usually has a little light at the end of it.)
– Small metal file (to get paint off of floor for ground wire)
– Inserts for fuses (for a small or moderate system 20-30 amps usually will do it)
– Wire crimpers
– Crimp connectors (tube type, shrink wrap type if you really want a pro look to it)
– Multi meter (to make sure that you have the right wires)
– Flashlight
– Wiring diagram for your aftermarket stereo or stock setup
– Screw driver (Phillips and flat)
– Tin sheers or wire cutters
– Electrical tape
– Zip ties
– Male and female butt connectors
– Forked wire connectors
– Possibly electric drill (for mounting amp, drilling holes for wires, or to mount sub enclosure)

Instructions

  • 1

First of all, you have to get an amplifier wiring kit. You can buy the kit from any electronic shop or you can order for it on the internet. After getting the kit, you must note down the dimensions so that you can install the wire.

  • 2

Then, you have to run 12v power wire from your car’s battery. After that, connect it with the amplifier. However, keep the power wire away from the battery for a moment.

  • 3

You need to find a metal ground near your amplifier to give charge to the wire. Then, get the CD player out of the dashboard and attach the other end of the wire to its back.

  • 4

Now, take the remote wire which came along with your kit and connect it with the blue and white wire which is coming out of the dashboard.

  • 5

Check the ‘Subwoofer Output’ at the back of your deck and insert the RCA white and red wire into it. You can connect four speakers to the deck at a time.

  • 6

Cover all the wire. Then, connect the subwoofers to the amplifier. Set the range of your speakers. Close the boxes of your subwoofers. Then, make sure that the impedance of the amplifier matches with the subwoofers.

  • 7

After that, you have to put the 12v wire right into the engine which should be around half a meter away from your car’s battery.

  • 8

Now, attach the power wire to your battery with the connectors. Connect the main wire to the amplifier and play any song to check the subwoofers.
