How to Keep a Cat from Being Stolen

As time goes by, just about every pet owner grows attached to his or her pets. They form a bond with the animal, and consider it to be a part of the family.

However, there are people out there who just don’t understand this concept, and often go on and steal people’s pets. Pet theft has been on the rise in recent years, and all pet owners need to be more cautious with their pets, and ensure that they can’t be stolen.

Cats are relatively easier for people to steal given their size and the fact that they are easy to distract, as compared to dogs. This is why cat owners need to take all the necessary measurements required to ensure that their cats don’t get stolen.

Instructions

  • 1

    Keep them indoors

The first and most basic thing that you need to do is to raise your cat as an indoor cat. Keeping the cat indoors will prevent it from going outside, which would significantly decrease its chances of being stolen.

At the same time, the cat is going to adapt and adjust to wanting to live inside, and hence even if it accidentally gets out, the cat will be looking to get back into the house sooner, rather than later.

  • 2

    Use trackers

The next best thing to do, is to install a tracker system in your cats collar. This tracker system will always be online and will constantly tell you the whereabouts of your cat and its location.

Most cat thieves don’t spend time removing collars, and should they steal the cat and take it with them, they would dispose the collar somewhere, near where they are residing. This in turn would make it easier to track them down and recover your cat later on.

    Never leave the cat unattended

You must focus on never leaving the cat unattended. Try and always keep someone around with the cat, when you are going about your day to day routine. Also if you can’t keep someone with your cat at all times, try and leave the cat at a pet daycare, or take the cat with you wherever you go.

Get neighbours to recognize your cat

You need to get your neighbours and other people to recognize your cat, this way if a stranger is found carrying your cat around, they will be able to identify that something is off, and will be able to handle the situation.
