How to Make a Homemade Aromatherapy Diffuser

Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses essential oils and other herbal scents to promote healing and improve mood and mental health. Medical studies and surveys have proven that certain scents have the ability to elevate mood and reduce stress. Some herbal fragrances also heal alleviate insomnia and other sleeping disorders. An aromatherapy diffuser is a device that distributes the scent throughout an area. The fragrant atmosphere created helps promote relaxation, alleviate stress and anxiety, and offers other health benefits. Diffusers come in a variety of shapes and styles, including lamp rings, electric heat diffusers or fan diffusers, and these can be easily found at any local medical store. However, you can also make your own aromatherapy diffuser using simple household materials.

Things Required:

– A dark coloured glass bottle or vase
– Essential oil
– Dipropylene glycol
– Food colouring or candle dye (optional)
– Vodka or perfumer’s alcohol (optional)
– Reeds

Instructions

    Start by purchasing the essential oils of your choice at a natural food store or fragrance shop. You can also purchase the essential oils online.

    Combine one ounce of essential oil of your choice with 2 1/4 ounces of dipropylene glycol in a small mixing bowl and mix thoroughly.

    Pour the oil mixture into a glass bottle or vase and stir in a few drops of candle dye or food colouring.

    Insert a few reeds in the glass bottle so that the lower ends of the reeds are in the oil mixture, and let stand for 3 to 5 minutes.

    Then, turn the reeds over so that the top ends are now in the oil mixture.

    The reeds will suck the oil mixture and start acting like an aromatherapy diffuser.
