How to Make a Rose Lip Balm

Lip balms do a great job of protecting our lips and enhancing their beauty appeal. Balms act as a shield between harsh weather elements like sun and wind and our lips. This prevents the lips from being dry and chaffed. They also give a glossy touch to the lips which makes them appear fuller, prominent and more attractive. Lip balms come in a wide variation now, from fruit and flower flavours to chocolate. One of the most used one is Rose lip balm which is made using rose oil. Roses are known and admired for their beauty and using them on your lips is going to taste, smell and look good. The lip balm can easily be made at home and filled into empty containers. They also make great gifts.

Things Required:

– 1 tablespoon beeswax pearls (also called pellets or pastilles)
– 1 tablespoon pure shea butter
– 2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
– 10-15 drops essential oils
– 10 drops of rose oil (rose otto)
– Empty containers

In a double boiler, melt the beeswax pellets first. You can also melt it by putting the bowl on a pot full of boiling water for better consistency. Beeswax should always be melted slowly on low heat. Avoid using the oven because it does not allow you to stir constantly.

Add to it the shea butter, and almond oil and melt everything together. Stir everything together continuously to make an even mixture. Warm until everything is liquefied. Turn off the heat. Now add the essential oils.

Now is the time to add the flavour and any colouring. You can use food colouring of your choice if you want a coloured lip balm. Add the ten drops of rose oil which will bring in the rose flavour to your lip balm

Set out the containers for your balms. The above ingredients can make 4 tins of ½ ounce each. You can use containers of old lip balms that you got from the market. Clean them out and sterilize them in hot water before you start making the balm. Pour the balm mixture into these containers. Let it cool down well and set in before you put on the lids and start using. Use large containers to place inside your room and small ones to carry around in the bag.
