The coating of mozzarella sticks is the trickiest part of preparing them and if not made appropriately, it will ruin the entire taste of your cooking. Just a few pointers to keep in mind and you can make perfect mozzarella sticks with delicious coating at home.

Prep time: 30 min
Cook time: 15 min
Total time: 45 min
Yield: Makes 1 dozen sticks
Utensils: Mixing bowls, egg beater, saucepan, draining pan, stove

Ingredients:
Pack of mozzarella cheese: 1 (16 ounce)
Eggs: 2
Water: ¼ cup
Milk: ¼ cup
Italian seasoned bread crumbs: 1 ½ cup
Garlic salt: ½ teaspoon
All-purpose flour: 2/3 cup
Cornstarch: 1/3 cup
Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  • 1

Crack two eggs in a mixing bowl and beat them with a manual or an electric beater. Add milk to the eggs and beat the mixture well. Put the mixture aside for a while and start making the coating for your cheese sticks.

  • 2

Take another small bowl and mix the breadcrumbs and garlic salt in it. You can add other spices like, oregano or Parmesan cheese to make a different taste of the coating you are preparing for your mozzarella sticks.

  • 3

Take out mozzarella cheese from the packet and cut it into ½ inch wide sticks. The length of your mozzarella sticks will be according to the size of the packet you buy from the market. Normally, a 16 ounces packet will give you about a dozen of cheese sticks but you can vary the number as well by cutting thinner sticks.

  • 4

Put sufficient cooking oil in a saucepan to deep fry your cheese sticks. Heat the oil to almost 185 degrees on your cooking stove.

  • 5

Take one cheese stick at a time and dip it into the egg and milk mixture you prepared in the beginning. Then roll the egg-dipped sticks into the breadcrumb mixture. If you want a thicker crust, you can repeat the process twice, re-dipping the cheese sticks in egg and rolling in breadcrumbs once again.

  • 6

Put the coated cheese sticks into hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown. It should take about 30 seconds.

  • 7

Remove the mozzarella sticks from oil with a draining pan and put them on paper towel to absorb excess oil on them. Serve with tomato sauce or your favourite dip.
