The first thing you want to do is to set up your workstation where you are going to be working on your jeans. You will need a large enough space where you can easily move about and work comfortably. You are first going to want to bleach the pair of jeans that you wish to turn into shorts. Place these jeans in a washing machine, and add chlorine to the mix. Let the machine run on medium cycle and use warm water during this phase. Once you pull the jeans out, wash them a couple of times to get rid of all the bleach. After they have been bleached and washed, dry them out using a dryer.

After you have dried out the jeans, go to work on them with a pair of scissors. You can use any pair that you have lying around, but it would be recommended for you to use a pair of rough scissors, which would give the jeans a worn look. Cut them to the length that you want your shorts to be. Don’t worry about getting them to an exact measurement, since you can take care of that later on.

You are now going to want to add the whole fray effect to your jeans shorts. Use a scissor to do this. Go ahead and rub up the back pocket and create strategic rips in the shorts using sandpaper and scissors. Don’t overdo it, since that will just end up making the shorts look terrible.

After you are done, you can take a quick look at the shorts and decide if you want to add some flair or other accessories to them. This is completely your choice, and doesn’t need to be done if you don’t want to.
