Looking to make a simple Coffee cake with brown sugar topping? You can do that by following this easy and interesting recipe and it won’t even take a lot of your time.
Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ⅓ cup shortening
  • 1 beaten egg
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • Topping:
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
Instructions
  1. Before doing anything else, make sure that your oven is working fine and clean it properly. Once it is cleaned and ready, heat it up to 350 degrees. It will take few minutes to reach that temperature so be patient about it.
  2. Now prepare yourself and wearing an apron won’t be a bad idea as you are baking a cake and this will save your clothes. Grease 12 cup bundt pans and pick up a large mixing bowl.
  3. Put butter in it and stir. Then slowly add sugar in it and stir a little more. Add eggs and vanilla in the end and beat on medium speed for couple of minutes so that the ingredients are mixed properly.
  4. Now you need to mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Don’t forget to add it alternately with sour cream.
  5. Take batter and add 2 cups of it in the pan. Once the batter is spread sprinkle with tablespoon or ⅓rd filling. Now focus on this point or your cake won’t taste good. You need to repeat this step twice in order to bake the perfect cake.
  6. Insert a toothpick in the centre of the mixture and put the pan in the oven. Make sure that the oven is heated up to the required temperature of 350 degrees.
  7. Now let it bake for around 60 minutes and keep a close eye. See if the toothpick is still intact or has come out. When it is baked, take the pan out of the oven and put it aside while you prepare the topping.
  8. For the topping, you need to mix ½ cup of packed brown sugar with ½ cup of walnuts (optional). Now add 1½ teaspoons cinnamon to the topping. You can even choose to use less sugar if you want because there are no hard and fast rules regarding that.
