Instructions

  • 1

    Buy a white T-shirt

The first thing you need is a white cotton shirt, which can be easily bought from the store. If you have one available at home, you don’t have to waste your money and use it for your activity. Remember that cotton shirts are the best for this purpose, as they absorb the dye better than any other cloth.

  • 2

    Dampen the shirt

Using a spray bottle filled with water, dampen the shirt completely. There are other ways of dampening, but this one is the best, as you will be able to use as much water as required and there won’t be any drops falling off it.

  • 3

    Decide what pattern you like

There are numerous patters which can be tried on your shirt and if you are good at designing then you can experiment with some creative ones. In case you don’t have any clue, you can search the internet for different tie dye shapes.

  • 4

Fold the shirt into desired pattern

Once you have decided on the pattern, fold the shirt accordingly. This is quite a tricky thing to do and you will need some rubber bands or knots at the end of the folds to keep the shirt in your desired shape.

  • 5

Dip shirt in soda ash water

Add soda ash to water and soak your shirt in it. Keep it there for 15 minutes, as that will help the dye stick to your shirt better. Meanwhile, mix water, urea and different colours of your choice in a container.

  • 6

    Soak shirt in the dye

Dip the shirt into the dye and leave it there for 20 minutes. Afterwards, place it in a plastic bag and put it somewhere for 24 hours.

  • 7

    Untie shirt and rinse

Unfold the shirt and wash it properly before allowing it to dry completely.
