Gingerbread cookies are popular amongst people of all age groups, but children specially love them because of their unique shape. Although they can be eaten on any occasion, people love preparing them on Christmas.
Soft shortening - ⅓ cup
Packed brown sugar - 1 cup
Dark molasses - 1½ cups
Cup cold water - ⅔
Flour - 6 cups
Baking soda - 2 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp
Allspice - 1 tsp
Ginger - 1 tsp
Clove - 1 tsp
Cinnamon - 1 tsp
Take a medium sized bowl and add shortening, brown sugar and molasses to it.
Stir them together properly, so that the mixture settles down.
One by one, start adding the dry ingredients in the same bowl and continue mixing them together, so that dough is formed.
Although you can use a spatula to mix everything, it will be ideal to make the dough with your hands.
However, you have to wash your hands properly before that.
Once you have made the dough, allow it to chill for a couple of hours.
It is ideal to wrap a wax paper around the dough before placing it in the refrigerator.
You can perform some other household activities while it cools down.
Afterwards, roll in the dough properly, but you have to leave it half inch thick in order to shape the gingerbread cookies perfectly.
Once the dough is rolled in nicely, you can cut the cookies in the desired shapes.
In this case, you will need a gingerbread cookie cutter.
Grease the cookie sheet with the help of oil or butter and place all of the gingerbread biscuits on it.
Place the cookie sheet in the oven and bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
